Oh, Yes--Finally Friday

1) I read "the good parts" of the battle with the dragon as Beowulf and Wiglaf together dispatched the beast.  You will receive the paper version (not long) as your 4th and final installment of the story as a whole. We talked about the wooden shield's failure, Beowulf's problem with iron swords,  the snake-like features of the dragon, Wiglaf's position as Beowulf's heir, and --probably most important--the specifics of the praise given to Beowulf at the end by the twelve Geats who mourned him as they rode around his tower.

2) You received a homework assignment about Beowulf's character traits.  You need to complete it for class on Monday.  There will be one additional step before you hand it in.  It will become a model of sorts for the prewriting for an actual essay (but NOTE--I keep repeating--your actual essay is NOT on the character of Beowulf himself.  And this essay is a "regular" composition, which you'll be doing quite  a few more of in the next few months.  It is NOT a major, process essay.)

So if you missed the hand-out in class today, it's linked here:

3) Also on Monday--I'll collect your participation cards.  I didn't today because there's a short summary assessment form you'll need to fill out, and then staple your card(s) to the form.
