TODAY IN CLASS
We completed discussion of the "orange sheet" questions on the hand-out from last week (sections 5-10 of the complete Beowulf). Be sure to hang on to both the hand-out and the questions; you're responsible for this information as part of the Beowulf unit. We got mostly through the "Battle with Grendel" section in 4th period--just TO that section in 6th period. Obviously we'll need to pick up where we left off tomorrow, because this section is crucial to the work as a whole.
FOR TOMORROW
There will be a short fill-in section on the nature of the celebratory banquet as well as the bloody end to that night (no hand-out on this--just some brief story-telling and summary for your notes). Then we will get back to your text. Be sure that you have read the short section called "The Monster's Lair" (p. 49) and the longer section "The Battle with Grendel's Mother" (pp. 50-53).
