Chapter One (i.e. Part One) Quiz Tomorrow

TODAY IN CLASS
Written work--
Additional material was added to the three questions done in class either yesterday (4th) or Friday (6th).  Since this was open-book, you can just do this at home if you were out of class.  The object was to characterize "the girl with the dark hair" according to what we know of her (appearance, attire, affiliations, other preferences/qualities, etc.) as well as to assess Winston's reactions/opinions of her.  Quoted material from the text--supporting details, commentary, etc.--is expected.  These were collected in class, so if you were absent, it is your responsibility to add this section to the original stamped paper and turn it in.

Discussion--
Details about how Winston commits "thoughtcrime" by all of the musing he does on both the distant and recent past, always questioning, trying to resolve dates/events, or flat-out KNOWING how new information does not fit with what he's sure of from the past.  We also looked at some of the easy, pretty-much surface level questions on the 1-15 side of the Chapter One hand-out.

FOR TOMORROW
Review all of Chapter One (8 chapters) carefully.  There will be a quiz with written responses, not MC, matching, etc.  No long writing on this one, though.
