STILL IN CATCH-UP MODE

Reading Schedule
Here is this week's section of the Frankenstein reading schedule, copied and pasted from last week's hand-out, which was also posted on last Thursday's blog.  It is not new information:

• Monday, May 24—We will do Chapter 10 together in class, and discuss Ch. 7-10
• Tuesday, May 25—Everyone will have the full period to get started on Chapters 11-15 (pp. 87-120). This is a longer chunk than most; read as much as you can in class, and finish up the rest by the start of class on Wednesday.
• Wednesday, May 26—Discuss 11-15 briefly (more on this later); we will do Ch. 16 IN class (only 8 pages)
• Thursday, May 27—Reading time for Chapter 17-19 (pp. 130-149)
• Friday, May 28—NO SCHOOL 

We have clearly been off-base in class this week, but your at-home reading should be proceeding.  That means that with Ch. 10--which we should have done in class--you need to know at least that Frankenstein and the Creature have a confrontation, and that Frankenstein consents to listen to his story.  I still have reasons for wanting to present this chapter in class, but you have to continue reading anyway.  If you've already read it carefully, wonderful.  If not, you can accept the italicized sentence above "on faith" and continue with Ch. 11-15.

And just FYI
Though it's back to our discussion of North Korea as we studied 1984, I trust you're paying some attention to the escalation of rhetoric (basically, threats) from North Korea to South Korea.  This is the most serious level of concern since the cessation of fighting in the 1950's (remember, not the "end" of the Korean War, but rather a very uneasy truce).
