TODAY IN CLASS
1) Short quiz over Chapter 10.
2) Chapter 9 questions collected (except from the handful of people with Tuesday absences who received an extra day to finish. Remember to turn them in to me tomorrow!
3) Close-reading discussion of Chapter 10--not only the "big event." but also the progress of Winston's thoughts prompted by his observation of the prole woman hanging laundry and singing.
(4th--remind me that we need to talk specifically about the appeal to Winston and the symbolism of the paperweight)
FOR TOMORROW
This is another one of the "be responsible for your own life" decisions about timing. You need to be finished with the book by Monday; as you can tell by looking, Part III is by far the shortest section.
If you want to split your reading pretty evenly between for tomorrow and for Monday, read Chapters I and II. We will definitely look closely at the first couple of pages of Part III tomorrow, but mostly, we'll be working with the section on Goldstein's book.
