A COUPLE OF DIFFERENCES . . .

between the classes today.  We completed "The Rocking-Horse Winner" discussions in both, but we were at different starting points, so this took differing amounts of time.  Fourth period did not have a new story to read--and you don't have to do it for homework since the paper is do.  Sixth-period students had a chance to read Graham Greene's "A Shocking Accident" (story right after RHW--don't have my book right now, sorry).  Expect a short reading check quiz on the story.

Personal Essay Draft Due Tomorrow
  • It must be one of the topics on the hand-out UNLESS YOU HAVE CLEARED IT WITH ME.  And note that even if you're writing on Common App #6 (topic of your choice), you needed to check to see if that was OK.
  • The length requirement is 500-650 words.  Do a word count.  Longer essays are OK on the first draft. . .might need to be cut later on.
  • Your draft must be typed, double-spaced.  No printing allowed during class, even before the bell rings. (If you have printer issues tonight, come to the library or to my room before school, or go to the library at lunch.)
  • Type out (or hand-write before coming to class) the complete topic at the top of the draft. This is necessary on the first draft even if it's one of the standard Common App or UW choices.
